To Do for Block Captains

GET TO KNOW YOUR BLOCK
  • Introduce yourself and the Lindon City Drill to any new neighbors. You can do this by leaving a flier, calling by phone, and/or talking face-to-face.
  • Be sure to include everyone, paying particular attention to rental units and those who you may not see often.
BE PREPARED BEFORE THE DRILL / A REAL EVENT
  • The primary role of a Block Captain is communication. Block Captains should be good communicators.
  • Update block information.
  • Review block captain responsibilities.
  • Learn correct lines of communication during a disaster.
  • If you have an Assistant or Back-up Block Captain, review with her/him responsibilities during the drill and during a disaster.

Pre-Drill Instructions for Block Captains
  1. Block Captains should introduce the drill to every household in their assigned block, including rental units.
  2. Ask them to participate on the night of the drill.
  3. Plan in advance and exchange cell phone numbers and other relevant information with the adults in your block. • DO NOT collect phone numbers for anyone younger than 18 years old. • Block Captains should ONLY communicate with other adults.
  4. Choose a back-up Block Captain in case you can’t be reached. Communicate this to your Neighborhood Captain.
  5. Do any training necessary to help Lindon City residents understand this year’s drill.
  6. Come to the Block Captain Training Event on Saturday, August 21 at 1:30PM at the Lindon City Community Center (25 N. Main St.)

Night-of-the-Drill Instructions for Block Captains
  1. HONK YOUR HORN AT EXACTLY 6PM! (horns will go off all over the city)
  2. Host an in-person block gathering. Be as fun as you want!
  3. Quickly share these announcements:
    1. Tell your block that if they require help with special needs in an emergency, they have the option to tell you about their needs.
    2. Fill out forms and send them by runner ASAP!
  4. After forms are sent to your neighborhood captain, host a formal training on Everbridge with your block.
    1. Hand out the Everbridge postcards to every household.
    2. Help residents sign-up on Everbridge if they need/want help.
    3. Do other training as requested / instructed by city planners.
  5. Drill ends at or before 8PM.
